Summer Vacation Disney/Orlando

This year's summer vacation we went to Disney/Orlando for some park hopping. It has been several years since we have visited the Disney parks and we figured the boys were the perfect age to enjoy the rides. Our best buds the Petitts and Kevin joined us on our travels. We arrived at our resort on Saturday and were excited to see all the renovations. They had expanded the pool area to include a beautiful pool and deck with a lazy river flowing around it, 2 water slides, and hot tubs. The boys had a great time in the lazy river and pool when we weren't at the theme parks.
Sunday we headed to Universal's Islands of Adventure. The boys were so excited to go see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, that we headed there immediately as soon as the park opened. It was by far the best part of the park. The village of Hogmeades looked just like out of the movies and the quaint little shops were so cool. We loved the wintery rooftops, even though we were dripping with sweat at 8am. The sight of the snow topped rooftops made us feel like it was cooler.

The boys loved the rides in Harry Potter. Inside Hogwart's castle they experienced the talking portraits, iconic classrooms and props, they also saw characters from the movie. Then we went on a thrilling ride following Harry on his broomstick while we were being chased by a dragon.

Caleb's favorite ride of the day was the Dragon Challenge, a loop-de-loop roller coaster. He had to ride it twice to experience each dragon coaster.

Frozen Butterbeer!
Then of course we had to experience Butterbeer and check out Ollivander's wand shop.
Trying out their spells

Cody enjoyed Jurassic Park, although he got a bit too close to the T-Rex. Caleb and I also enjoyed the Hulk roller coaster in the Marvel Hero island. Cody and Ben saw the Marvel Heroes called to action. There was an announcement and they burst out of a building and jumped on motorcycles, then took off to save the world.

Monday we spent a rainy day home at the condo. Dad, Lori, and Troy came up to spend the day with us. So glad we got to spend time with Troy, we missed seeing him last summer! It was a great day of family time.

We played our favorite family game of Mexican dominoes, while Cody took a long, well deserved nap ;-)

When the Petitts came home from their Islands of Adventure experience, the boys spent the evening casting spells and playing wizards.
Tuesday we decided to head over to the Atlantic, since Cocoa beach was only an hour away. We were glad we did. The boys had so much fun riding the waves and playing in the sand. The waves were a bit rough, but we enjoyed playing in them all day.

Wednesday was Disney's Magic Kingdom day. Since we had such a busy week and wanted to stay late at the park, we arrived after we ate lunch at the condo. It was a hot, crowded day at Disney. But the boys enjoyed the rides, especially Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland Speedway, Splash Mountain, and Space Mountain. It was such a different experience from when we went with the Petitts several years ago when the boys were toddler and preschool age. At that time, it was all about the Disney characters. This year, we only saw a couple of Disney characters in the park, mostly only during the parade. Of course, we weren't hanging out in the kiddie sections either.

it's a small world
Had to go on the traditional ride, It's a Small World. It hasn't changed since we were kids. I love all the little countries and funny boys and girls dancing. The boys thought it was creepy. Lol! But the boys picked up on the iconic song and sang or hummed it for the rest of the week.

Thursday we went to Typhoon Lagoon, one of Disney's water parks. Bonus...Kimber was able to join us for the day. It was fabulous to catch up on her life and wedding plans. So fun to see her after so long!
Cody adored cousin Kimber!

Friday we went to the Surfing Simulator at our resort. The boys took turns body-surfing. Adam was a natural and figured out how to guide his board over to the sweet spot on the side. Caleb would get washed up and over the wave, like a toilet flushing. Cody would glide to the side and end up getting pushed back to the starting point. Andrew bumped his head on the back wall when he wiped out. Over all they had a blast. It was hysterical to watch them.

Great week with good friends and family! It was a hot, busy, and hectic vacation. But the boys had a great time, after all it was a vacation for them. Next vacation, they can endure hiking and relaxation in the mountains :-)
